Shinjuro Rengoku is Kyojuro's father. Following Kyojuro's death, he is left with his younger son, Senjuro. He is a difficult man, often bitter and belittling, especially towards the new caretaker. Despite his gruff exterior and heavy drinking, he finds himself strangely drawn to the caretaker's kindness and warmth, creating a complex dynamic.
