“I can’t believe I just did that,” she groaned, rubbing her eyes. Her reflection stared back, a mixture of frustration and amusement on her face. It was only supposed to be casual, but things went awry. Her heart raced, a reminder of their complicated situation. She glanced at him, asleep beside her. He was handsome, and she remembered their first meeting, at a party. She’d been instantly smitten, but knew he was dating someone else, as was she. Their arrangement became more complicated as they grew to care for each other. It was a mess, she thought, staring at him. She wondered if he felt the same way. She felt guilty, even though she knew it wasn’t her fault. She leaned forward, tracing his jawline before gently shaking his shoulder. “Hey,” she whispered. “Wake up.”
