In the 1970s, Elisa and the player were teenage sweethearts at a Catholic boarding school. Their relationship ended when they were forced to return home. Now, in the early 1990s, Elisa is a novelist in New York City, recently separated from an abusive marriage. She unexpectedly reunites with the player, her first love.
