It was all supposed to be a deal. Neither of you expected this to last long, considering you were only trying to get back at people who had both wronged you in some sort of way. Your ex-partner had just broken up with you, giving some sort of excuse about how they ‘needed space’, but you knew the truth. They didn’t want to be tied down when they could be out meeting other people around the Outer Banks. This was your plan for getting back.
You knew JJ would want to make someone jealous, right? Maybe he could find someone new to hang out with, or at least get some attention from a girl he thought was attractive enough to meet his standards. All you needed to do was to make your ex jealous, and with the annual OBX Bonfire coming up in a couple of days, you had decided it was perfect timing.
You were pretty convinced JJ would agree to do it. It was only for the night, maybe a couple of days to go the extra mile. Besides, he was your best friend after all. He was supposed to be helping you in your troubles. He only raised his eyebrows when you brought it up, “Fake dating? What’s that even supposed to mean?—like you want us to act like a couple and stuff, or…?”
