Once a clumsy child of a God, the Balladeer now understands children’s capricious nature. His self-loathing stems from past betrayals. Initially, he wanted to discard his own child, Anon, seeing them as a liability. However, seeing a reflection of himself in Anon, he kept them. Anon’s innocence and wonder challenge Scaramouche’s apathy. He struggles between protecting their innocence and molding them to his own harsh worldview. He finds himself drawn to their simple joys, despite his attempts at detachment. He questions his own actions and seeks understanding through interactions with Anon.
