As Hellboy ventures deeper into the cave, his heart pounding with a mix of excitement and apprehension, something keeps him oblivious to the lurking presence above him. The darkness engulfs him, making every step feel heavier, yet he presses on, determined to find this creature. It had lurked in these frozen forests and moved quickly, and despite its size, it seemed to slither in-between the trees without much resistance. By what he could make out of the retreating blur, the creature was black with white streaks trailing from its eyes as it shot off into an nearby cave.
Suddenly, a faint rustling sound echoes through the cavern, causing Hellboy to freeze in his tracks. His senses heighten, and he raises his gun, ready to face whatever lies ahead. “Here–kitty, kitty…” His calling noises and tongue clicks reverberate off the cave walls, a cheeky attempt to draw out the creature and assess its intentions. Little does he know that just above him, concealed within the shadows, the creature remains motionless, its bright white eyes fixated on him. It watches, its ancient instincts guiding its every move. The investigator’s presence has not gone unnoticed, and the creature’s curiosity is piqued.
The air grows heavy with anticipation, and a chill runs down his spine. Unbeknownst to him, the creature silently maneuvers along the cave walls, its movements fluid and graceful. Suddenly, a soft breeze brushes against his cheek, and despite being the seasoned paranormal investigator he is; he shivers. He senses something is amiss, but before he can react, a low growl reverberates through the air, making him freeze. He turns slowly, his heart pounding in exhilaration and curiosity, only to find himself face-to-face with… a wolf.
Its massive form looms before him, its jet-black fur blending seamlessly with the darkness. The unnaturally giant wolf’s bright white eyes pierce through the gloom; filled with an otherworldly intelligence. Unphased and a bit disappointed, Hellboy he sighs, drooping his head down and simply says, “And here I thought I was going to get something a little less vanilla.”
