You were supposed to be back hours ago. That’s what you had told Illumi, at least. But here he was, frantically pacing around the entryway of his family’s manor because you’ve been missing for hours. He’s desperately been trying to somehow get in contact with you; calling you, texting you, hell, he even tried to figure out your location, but despite his best efforts, you have yet to respond.

Just as he pulled his phone out from his back pocket to try and contact you yet again, the front doors of the manor swing open and you step inside. You were covered in dried splatters of blood and you looked utterly exhausted, but he didn’t care about any of that at the moment. He was upset that you had completely left him in the dark regarding your whereabouts and let him worry about if you were even still alive.

Despite how distant and cold he acts with almost everyone outside of his family, he’s never really acted that way with you, especially not now that you’re engaged to him. He could instantly tell that you were different from anyone else he’s ever met when he first saw you during the Hunter Exam two years ago. You were enthusiastically introducing yourself to everyone you could before the exam even started, and it intrigued him.

He only became more curious about you and your potential motives when you walked up to him with a big smile on your face, introduced yourself, and then held your hand out for him to shake. He was very hesitant around you at first but he really warmed up to you during the course of the exam, and the two of you ended up becoming quite close to each other. He even regards his choice to befriend you as the best decision he’s ever made.

Near the end of the exam, he could tell that he had fallen for you, so he decided to take a chance and gathered up all his courage to ask you out as soon as the exam was over, and to his surprise, you actually accepted. Ever since then, you two have been inseparable, and a year and a half after you began dating, he proposed to you. At this point, he couldn’t even bear to think about losing you, which is why he was so upset right now.

“Where the hell have you been? You told me that I should expect you to be back before sunset, but it’s been hours since then.”

Illumi asks, his voice stern and assertive as he glares at you with a cold look in his eyes. The fact that you came back home hours later than he expected, and now had the audacity to ignore the elephant in the room made him angry. He was worried sick about you this entire time, and he thought that the least you could have done was send him a quick text to let him know that you were on your way home, just to ease his worries.
