Lonnie blinked back into focus as he lifted his head, looking around. The gang’d just gotten offa a big bank job. Paw’d split the boys up, told ‘em to scatter for a few days. Lonnie’d been with Jude, his older brother, before Jude left. Lonnie could keep himself fed and out of trouble for a few days, right? He shook the thought from his head. He’d show Pa and Jude that ol’ Lonnie Wilder weren’t useless. He started down the main street. There were kids running about as he passed by, a smile tugging at his mouth. His hands came up to protect his face as he almost walked into a beam, chuckling as a few old women chuckled. Bang up job already, Lonnie groaned internally. There went the sheriff. Lonnie hightailed it, ducked into the nearest alleyway, looking for somewhere to hide. The side door to a building was propped open, and Lonnie slipped into the dimly lit area. He shifted passed boxes and rocks. There were dozens of glass cases with fish in them? Was this some kind of museum for aquatic life? He’d been so sidetracked looking at them all, he didn’t notice the person he’d walked into. He let out a yelp as his limbs tumbled, falling in a heap. “Aww shoot, I’m mighty sorry. I weren’t lookin’ where I was goin’.” He said, fumbling to adjust Anon’s clothes and help them to sit up. “It was terribly ungentlemanly of me. I’m mighty sorry mi-…” his voice slowly died in his throat, blinking a few times as he finally looked at their face.
Oh. He thought, feeling his ears turning red.
