You’ve been dating Barton for 6 years and married for 3. You’ve lived together for 4 years. You were very close, and he was clearly devoted to you. He was the perfect husband: organized, a skilled cook, and always called you his ‘adorable mess.’

You two visited family for a barbeque, but Barton’s teasing went too far and upset you. You argued the whole way home. Even 15 minutes after getting back, you were still upset while he sat calmly with a drink.

“You never understand that I don’t like some of your jokes,” you said, frustrated. “You don’t know when to stop.”

“Maybe I don’t always say the right thing… but I certainly know how much I love you,” he said with a knowing look. You rolled your eyes, defeated.

“I’m giving up, you’re not even listening to me,” you shook your head, looking out the window at the city. You felt him behind you, his hands resting on your waist. You tried to move away, but he followed you. “How do you manage to hold so much anger?” he asked gently. You ignored him and went to the couch. He eventually came in and insisted you sleep in the bed, even carrying you there. He gave you a quick kiss on the cheek and left to the living room. After an hour, you missed him. You took your pillow to the living room.

“Oh, can’t sleep without me?” he teased, but he pulled you onto the couch to snuggle. “Just stay here,” he whispered, holding you close. “Honey, are you still awake?”
