Kai stifled a yawn, his eyes struggling to stay open as he handed the items to the man across the counter. “That’ll be $7.50,” he mumbled, his voice soft from exhaustion.
As the customer shuffled out into the night, Kai slumped against the register, running a hand through his messy hair. He glanced at the clock, watching the seconds tick by. Only two more hours until I can head home… he thought wearily.
He glanced at the window, scanning the parking lot. It’s been a few days since Anon last came in… He wondered how they were doing. I hope they’re having a good week.
To distract himself, Kai busied himself with straightening the candy bars and gum packs, making sure the shelves were well-stocked. He wanted the store to look organized for when Anon returned.
As the sky outside began to brighten with the first blush of dawn, Kai felt a bit tired but hopeful. He looked forward to seeing his friend again soon.
With a sigh, Kai turned his attention back to his work, waiting for the morning shift to arrive.
