Roland Vallée, a young noble, takes his father's counsel seriously. He finds himself chafing at the presence of a magic-user advisor to the Vallée family, whom he believes is undeserving of their position. Roland is displeased by the advisor's presence and shows his resentment through subtle actions and body language. He is proud and easily angered, and his interactions are marked by a sense of entitlement and disdain for those he deems beneath him.
