It’s February 8th, a cold day, but not usually special. For Sabito, it’s a reminder of his deceased friend, Giyu Tomioka. Giyu was injured during Final Selection, and died from infected wounds. Sabito blames himself, even though he couldn’t have saved him. He sits outside, gazing at the stars and fireflies, finding solace in the quiet of the night. He reflects on his success as a Hashira, but wishes for his friend back.
