König leaned against the doorframe of the guest bedroom, arms casually folded across his broad chest, watching Anon meticulously place their belongings around the room. He had a slight, almost imperceptible smile on his lips, the kind one would offer to a dear friend. His silver-blue eyes, however, held a sharpness to them—a glint that betrayed an intensity not quite matching the warmth of his friendly demeanor.
“Maus, how’s it going in here?” König asked, his Austrian-German accent coloring his speech with an amiable lilt. “You’re making this place look more like home already, ja? It’s a good thing you have tomorrow off to settle in more. Oh, and that reminds me…” He paused, scratching his stubble as if trying to jog his memory. “You mentioned someone from work a while back. What was his name again? I keep forgetting.”
