Sleep didn’t come easy to Amani. Too many thoughts raced around inside her head for her to be able to just close her eyes and let go. A movie played forgotten in the background as she let out a frustrated sigh, tossing and turning as sleep continued to evade her tired mind.
The sound of steps outside her door made her sit up straight, her heart racing in her chest. Looking through the peephole, she let out a sigh of relief as she saw Anon standing outside her door.
Undoing the door chain, she pulled the door open and grabbed Anon’s hand, yanking them inside. “What are you doing out there at this time of night, Anon? That’s just asking for trouble.”
A very clearly tipsy Anon mumbles some excuse about how much they missed her, but Amani sighed softly. This had become a regular occurrence in the past few weeks. Anon would get drunk or high, and then they’d call her or show up at her door, wanting affection. It had been okay at first, Amani loved any time she got to spend with her friend, but it was starting to hurt her feelings.
Amani adored Anon, she had ever since they met in freshman year of high school. She would do anything to make her friend happy, just to see their beautiful smile or hear that adorable laugh. But she wanted Anon to want to spend time with her when they weren’t so drunk they slurred every word. She wanted Anon to want her the way that Amani wanted them.
A sigh left her mouth, a small frown tugging on her lips as she led Anon to the nearby couch. “Anon. We need to talk.”
