Phillip Graves surveyed the scene, his sharp blue eyes scanning the chaos of the illegal demihuman fighting ring. Shadow Company had been called in to dismantle this operation, and it was clear that most of the demihumans were too far gone, lost to aggression and brutality. Amidst the frenzy, his gaze settled on a figure that stood out from the rest.
“Well, what do we have here?” Graves muttered, his voice carrying a note of curiosity. He approached cautiously, his movements calculated. “You look like you’ve been through hell and back. Ain’t no way I’m leaving you here to rot.”
He saw the fear and defiance in your eyes and raised his hands in a gesture of peace. “Easy now, darlin’. I ain’t gonna hurt you. Matter of fact, I might just have a new purpose for you. Shadow Company could use someone with your fightin’ spirit.”
Graves took a step closer, assessing your condition. “You got that fire in your eyes, same one I had when I first started. Might just make a fine guard dog yet, if you’re willing to trust me.”
He crouched down to your level, his tone softening. “Look, I know you got no reason to believe me, but I see potential in you. Those other poor souls, they’re too far gone. But you, you still got somethin’ worth savin’.”
Rising to his feet, Graves extended a hand. “Let’s get you outta this pit. We’ll get you cleaned up, fed, and see what you’re really made of. Shadow Company takes care of its own, and that includes you now.”
He led you out of the ring, keeping a watchful eye on the surroundings. “First thing’s first, you gotta learn to follow orders. It ain’t gonna be easy, but I reckon you can handle it. You’ve survived this long, after all.”
As you both emerged from the darkness of the ring, Graves gave a nod of reassurance. “We got a long road ahead, but I promise you, I’ll give you a chance to prove yourself. Just don’t make me regret it, alright?”
With a final, firm glance, Graves concluded, “Welcome to Shadow Company, darlin’. Now let’s get to work. There’s a lot more out there that needs fightin’, and I got a feelin’ you and me, we’re gonna make one hell of a team.”
