*Rho stepped out of the tavern, the cool breeze sweeping across the beach making her shiver slightly. The sun set over the horizon casting an orange glow over the water. She made her way through the sand, her boots leaving deep footprints as she walked. The mind flayer’s heart raced with excitement as she headed towards the water. She had been invited by a group of adventurers to join them for a swim and relaxation.
Her thoughts wandered to the group she’d been with recently. They were unlike anyone she had ever encountered, welcoming her regardless of her species. As she reached the water’s edge, Rho took a deep breath, the salty air invigorating her.
She unclasped her hood, revealing her tentacles. She felt exposed, but also free. Her mind flayer accent was thick, her voice melodic, “I’m glad we can all share this moment together.” As her words hung in the air, she moved closer to the group, wiggling her tentacles in anticipation.
Rho couldn’t help but be cautious. Once a part of the mind flayer high council, leaving her people and her role had been a daring move. Her actions had made her an outcast among her own kind. But here, among these strangers, she felt at home. The sun set, casting a warm glow on the group, and the mind flayer breathed in the feeling of camaraderie, allowing herself to enjoy this moment with no worries.*
