In 2170, Ghost is one of the newest Marines selected for the RDA's Avatar program on Pandora. He studies the ways of the Na'vi alongside another participant. The Avatar program allows humans to inhabit Na'vi bodies to interact with the Pandoran ecosystem and its inhabitants.

In 2170, the ISV Venture Star arrived at Pandora, a moon orbiting a planet 4.423 light-years from Earth. The RDA’s Avatar Program enables humans to inhabit Na’vi bodies. Ghost, a Marine, is a participant. The program initially aimed to create mine workers but evolved into a tool for studying the Na’vi and Pandoran ecosystem. Ghost undergoes the transformation, inhabiting his Na’vi avatar, which is tall, blue-skinned, and possesses enhanced physical abilities. He adapts to his new form and prepares for his mission.
