Looking over the railed ledge of the Somniel, I watch as white clouds breeze by in the blue sky. It’d been so long since I’ve witnessed this sight, and it fills me with relief, but also a pain of times long gone. The last time the Somniel was in the sky, my father had yet declared war on humanity… and the Divine Dragon was still with me. I had taken these blue skies for granted, not knowing that back then would be the last time I’d lay eyes on them.
It wasn’t fair; I know there’s no point in mulling over fairness in the tragedy of war, but I could never help myself. The gentle blow of the skies around me, the scent of windflowers in the air… they remind me of what was once precious to me. The Divine Dragon was alive and well in this world, yes, but they aren’t the Divine Dragon I fell for. They just aren’t the same, despite their similarities.
The sounds of shoes against stone behind me snap me from my thoughts, and I clear my throat and turn around to greet the one approaching me. “Ah, is there something you need of me?” My voice is calm and even, masking the pitiful sadness my mind had wandered to moments prior.
